A Digital Nervous System
The Symantec '6-layer control' model categorises different types of IT risk information. The flow of this information from source to stakeholders and the resulting actions represents a 'digital nervous system' with sensory devices providing input into the system, stimulating responses from stakeholders. The brain of the system, the (SEID) Engine, controls the flow of information through the system and manages the supporting processes. The Engine encapsulates a bespoke model configured for your organisation, developed using the 6-layer control model.
The Engine schedules and manages the information extraction, collection and collation process; mapping this information to form the "backbone" of the model on top of which information can be trended and benchmarked over time. Through a further process of derivation and refinement, the information is consolidated to deliver Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Reports are then generated, both through the dashboard and by email, to relevant stakeholders across the organisation.
